Christ Revealed in John
John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was
made that was made.
In the beginning refers to Genesis 1:1 with the intention of linking Jesus Christ with the Word of God in
creation. The event of Jesus' incarnation had cosmic significance. The "Word" is Jesus Christ, the eternal, ultimate
expression of God. In the Old Testament God spoke the world into existance. In the New Testament God spoke His
final Word through His living Word, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Word.
The Word Becomes Flesh
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelth among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only
begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
The same Word spoke the creation was now made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus identified
himself by becoming flesh and blood.
The eternal Word of God became flesh so that He could save all who would believe on His name.
A Voice Crying in the Wilderness
John 1:23 He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the
Lord," as the prophet Isaiah said."
The Lamb of God
John 1:29-34 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away
the sin of the world!
30 "This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.'
31 "I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."
32 And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained on
Him.
33 "I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit
descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit'
34 "And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."
