PRAYER
The Lord's Prayer for Disciples
John 17
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said,
Father, the hour is come; glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you:
2 As you have given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that thet may know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, who you have sent.
4 I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify you me with youe own self with the glory which I had with you before the world was.
6 I have manisfested your name unto the men which you gave me out of the world.
7 Now they have known that all things whataoever you have given me are of you.
8 For I have to them the words which you gave me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from you, and they have believed that you did send me.
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but fot them which you have given me; for they are yours.
10 And all mine are yours and yours are mine; and I am glorified in them.
11 And now I am no more n the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep through your own name those who you have given me, that they may be one as we are.
12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name : those that you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled,
13 And now I come to you; and these things i speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled n themselves.
14 I have given them your word; and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray noy that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from evil.
16 They are noy of the world even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth.
18 As you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which will believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.
24 Father, I will that they also, who you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you, and these have known that you have sent me.
26 And I have declared to them your name, and will declare it: that the love where with you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Prayer of Jabez

1 Chronicles 4:10
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Instructions on Prayer
Matthew 6:5-15

5 And when you pray, you will not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synsgogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say to you, they have their reward.
6 But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Fatherwhich sees in secret will reward you openly.
7 But when you pray use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they will be heard for much speaking.
8  Be not you therefore like unto them: for your Father knows what things you have need , of before you ask him,
9 After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father who are in heaven, Hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day ouraily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, you heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Prayer Was Modeled for Us by Christ
You have probably heard what has been called "The Lord's Prayer."  Jesus gave us this particular prayer to show us how to pray.  Incidentalaly, just because we call this prayer  "The Lord's Prayer" does not mean that Jesus prayed it for himself.  He had no reason to ask for forgiveness because he never sinned.  Instead, it is more accurate to call this prayer  "The Disciple's Prayer," for it was given by Jesus as a response to disciples'  request. "Lord, teach us how to pray."
To better understand this prayer, we can break it down into two sets of petitions.

The first three petitions focus on the glory of God.
* "Our Father in heaven": Recognize that you are addresssing a holy God who sees you as his child.
* May your name be honored: Begin your prayers with reverence and praise to God for who he is.  This will enable you to put your needs or problems in their proper perspective.
* May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven": Ask God for his will to reign supreme in your life.  You cannot pray "your kingdom come" until you pray "my kingdom go."

The second three petitions focus on our personal needs.
*Give us our food for today: Make your physical and personal needs known to God. Remember, Scripture tells us that God will provide for all our needs (Philippians 4:19).
* "And forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who haved sinned against us": Confess your sins to God. Psalm 66:18 says, "If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, my Lord would not have listened."  If you area clinging to some sin, your prayer life will come to a screeching halt.
* And don't let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" : Recognize your inclination to fall into sin, and pray that the opportunity to sin and the desire to do so will never coincide.

Make it a p oint to include these most important aspects in your personal prayers.  By doing so, you will begin to understand how immense your God is and how small your problems are in comparison to him.
